Airing between regular episodes of the VinePair Podcast, “Covid-19 Conversations” takes an inside look at how the coronavirus crisis is impacting all areas of the alcohol business.
In this installment of “Covid-19 Conversations,” VinePair CEO Adam Teeter speaks with John Dantzler, co-founder of Torch & Crown Brewing Co. located in New York City.
Dantzler shares Torch & Crown’s origin story, starting with underaged best friends having their IDs confiscated at Bar None, to starting an illicit homebrewing hobby and later winning homebrew competitions, and eventually planning to open a brewery of their own after college.
Now with a contract brewing business in the Bronx and recently opened brewery in Lower Manhattan, Dantzler discusses the brewery’s pivot to providing at-home beer delivery, from building an e-commerce platform from scratch to having rotating shifts among staff.
Torch & Crown’s delivery model has been extremely successful, allowing the brewery to keep paying staff, as well as connect with customers. Upon successful reopening, Dantzler hopes to continue at-home delivery in addition to on-premise operations.
