The Story Behind The Smoke, Spice, and Everything Nice

Mix equal parts classic cocktails — here’s looking at you, Manhattan and De La Louisiane — with a bit of smoky mezcal and fruit, and you get this delicious, aromatic drink. It has a lovely balance of flavors and can easily be batched to serve a crowd. (I recently made a bunch in a whiskey decanter and kept it in the fridge, so it was ready whenever I felt like a tipple.)

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce bourbon
  • 1 ounce rye
  • ½ ounce mezcal
  • ½ ounce strawberry syrup
  • 2 dashes aromatic bitters

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail glass with ice.
  2. Stir to chill and combine.
  3. Fine strain into your cocktail glass over fresh ice.
  4. Garnish and enjoy!
