The Story Behind The Southern Jam

I am currently traveling in the South, where no visit can be complete without bourbon. Bourbon is one of my favorite spirits because it is so versatile and can be enjoyed neat or in a cocktail. Today I wanted to share one of my favorite ways to use bourbon -- combining it with your favorite jam. For this recipe, I decided to use raspberry jam, but any jam would work, preferably berry. To the jam and bourbon I added lemon juice and fresh raspberries for an extra kick! Shake all that up with some ice and you have a perfect summer cocktail.

One reason I love using jams in cocktails is because it takes the place of simple syrup. The jam acts as the sweet component in your drink and you don’t have to prep anything. The jam also works in other cocktails and can upgrade the flavor in cocktails such as the Moscow Mule, Lemon Drop, and a French 75.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • ½ ounce lemon juice
  • 5 raspberries
  • 1 heaping teaspoon raspberry jam
  • Garnish: edible flower and raspberries

Directions

  1. Combine bourbon, lemon juice, raspberries and raspberry jam in a shaker.
  2. Shake mixture then strain over fresh ice
