The Story Behind The Barrel-Aged Mandarin 75

The French 75 is a classic cocktail with a few historical and contemporary variations, but its first recorded appearance was circa 1915 at The New York Bar in Paris.

In today’s version, I have removed the sugar and replaced it with sweet mandarin juice to balance out the drink alongside the lemon juice. As for the gin, I did not replace it but instead used a beautiful barrel-aged gin that gives the concoction a slightly bolder character. It brings a slight caramelized flavor and certain botanicals such as orange and ginger.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce barrel-aged gin
  • ½ ounce lemon juice
  • ½ ounce mandarin juice
  • Champagne to top (approximately 2-3 ounces)

Directions

  1. Pour gin and mandarin and lemon juices in appropriate glass.
  2. Top with Champagne.
  3. Enjoy!
